Foster the Family is a national organization that serves foster and adoptive families with the practical resources and support they need to serve well. Kim Peralta launched the Florida arm of Foster the Family in 2023. Kim and her husband Alex have served as foster parents for over five years, including doing medical foster care, and have seen first-hand the difference that supports like those offered by Foster the Family can make. They have quickly impacted our area, and we look forward to seeing what God will do through them in the future!
Foster Care Packages
One of the staple supports Foster the Family Florida offers is a package delivered to the front door of a foster or kinship family within 24 hours of receiving a new placement. These packages include clothes, food, hygiene items, and a special toy for every child in the home. Foster kids will often come with little to nothing, so these packages are important to helping families through the first few days.
Volunteers are key to making these packages possible. Our church has several people who serve with Foster the Family Florida to help deliver packages. Volunteers sign up to assemble and deliver the packages once or more a month. This is the most significant need they have. If you are interested in volunteering, sign up here:
Respite Nights
Respite nights are times for foster, kinship, and adoptive families to drop their kids off with Foster the Family Florida staff and volunteers and enjoy a night off once every month. These breaks can provide vital breathing room for caregivers. It helps ensure they can continue loving and caring for the kids well while also taking care of themselves. These nights also allow the kids to come have a blast with Foster the Family Florida, doing fun activities, playing games, and spending time with other kids in similar situations.
These respite nights can’t happen without volunteers willing to spend a few hours helping these kids have a blast! If you’re interested in volunteering, sign up here:
Mom’s Support Group & Dad’s Breakfast
Social supports for foster, kinship, and adoptive families is vital to fostering success and longevity. Foster the Family Florida helps cultivate these social supports with a monthly Mom’s Support Group and a Dad’s Breakfast every other month. These groups provide much-needed time for parents to be with others in similar situations. This allows them to share experiences, wisdom, and encouragement when it is most needed. It also provides time for laughter, fun, and connecting.
If you are a foster, kinship, or adoptive family and you are interested in learning more about the Mom’s Support Group or Dad’s Breakfast, email Kim Peralta at kim.peralta@fosterthefamily.org.
